Le moteur de recherche dédié par google à la recherche d'images et des photographies sur le web n'en finit pas de se bonifier avec le temps ainsi après les couleurs la fonction de recherche d'images placées sous telle ou telle licence apparaît.

Il va sans dire que cette nouvelle fonction de recherche avancée qui est désormais autorisée par Google images s'adresse en premier lieu aux webmasters qui chercheraient des illustrations pour les pages de leur site web, il va sans dire en effet car la copie d'images pour un usage privé est en France autorisé.

Ce filtre, car techniquement s'en est un, va ainsi permettre de restreindre l'affichage d'une recherche de photographies à celles qui sont sous une licence permettant :
- une possibilité de réutilisation ;
- une possibilité de réutilisation à des fins commerciales ;
- une possibilité de réutilisation avec modification ;
- une possibilité de réutilisation à des fins commerciales avec modification.

Cette sélection faite sur la page de recherche avancée fera passer dans l'URL ledit filtre de paramètres (as_rights=) ce qui laisse à penser que le moteur se servira des informations de licence creative commons et plus généralement de Copyleft qu'il retrouvera sur les pages qui comportent les images ; il va donc sans dire que Google n'étant pas Dieu il faudra bien prendre soin de vérifier la réalité de ses mentions avant d'utiliser une image sous peine de poursuites.
